Delicate
NOLANS ROAD DELICATE is a mellow, fruity organic* extra virgin olive oil. ”Liquid gold!” is how Sydney chef Kylie Kwong described it in her book, It Tastes Better. Its characteristic softness comes from the Verdale olive variety which is of French origin. Like many of the French varieties, Verdale is prized for the sweet fruit-laden oil that it produces. Because it has a low fruit-to-stone ratio and therefore has low oil yield when pressed, it’s a variety of olive that has fallen out of favour with growers in broad acre groves who plant for mass production and therefore want high-yielding varieties. But it is beautiful oil and we are thrilled to have a partnership with someone as passionate as we are about quality and sustainability who treasures her remnant grove of precious 70-year-old dry-grown trees. The olives for our oil are hand picked right at the beginning of the harvest season so our Verdale is even more spectacular. We then blend the Verdale oil with a small amount of oil from Italian varieties in our Gum Park groves which gives it a lingering nutty finish.
Nolans Road Delicate is bottled unfiltered. Once they are pressed, we leave our oils to settle naturally over the winter months before they are carefully blended to ensure a balanced, delicious extra virgin olive oil. The fruitiness and creamy palate of Nolans Road Delicate makes it terrifically versatile, ideal for eveything from dipping to baking. As Kylie Kwong demonstrates every night in her restaurant, Billy Kwong, it is as much at home with Asian flavors as it is in western cuisines.
Extra Virgin Olive Oil Only olive oil of the highest quality can be called “Extra Virgin”. Legally, an olive oil can only be called “Extra Virgin” if it passes strict chemical analysis tests in an industry-accredited laboratory. Our oils are assessed every season and fall well within the legal boundaries of the definition.
